http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070416/ap_on_re_eu/france911 But George Bush was left out of the loop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9ZUa28kQZY
The documents included a Jan. 5, 2001, intelligence report warning that al-Qaida was at work on a hijacking plot. Seems normal that everyone knew
Did you even bother reading the article before commenting? Here, an excerpt to make it easier: France's foreign intelligence service learned as early as January 2001 that al-Qaida was preparing a hijacking plot likely to involve a U.S. airplane, former intelligence officials said Monday, confirming a report that also said the CIA received the warning.
So you should change the title thread by something like that : "Countries, including US, knew in 2001 al-Qaida had a plot"
The title is a link bait in the end. How many posters will come in and without reading the article or even the posts, express their disgust and horror against France. Then again, the poster may get a few cents from DP adsense.
Okay. So the intelligence agencies have data that says that Al Quida may be working on a plain hijacking plot. There's no specific information about when, what planes, what airlines, or what they plan to do with the plains. Most hijackings end with the passengers returning safely. So the president has a touch of data suggesting that a terrorist plot regarding plain hijackings may occur. He doesn't prevent it. Everyone is up in arms about how horrid that is. So the president goes to work on trying to defeat terrorist organizations, calling it a war on terror. He then gets intelligence suggesting that Iraq may have and be producing weapons of mass destruction. Nukes, biological weapons, ect. So he acts on this intel. Congress supports him on this, and even adds other concerns to the reasons we're going in. Humanitarian concerns, for example. It turns out that Iraq was not producing new WMD, but did have a stock pile of old ones that was slowly beginning to degrade. Everyone is up in arms, calling the president a liar over the WMD, and saying that the -only- reasons he invaded were for oil, and due to his father's previous war in Iraq. I have no doubt that those two things weighed in as factors in his mind, but we did have intel that suggested that Iraq was developing WMDs. How would the country have reacted if bush saw that intel, and did nothing, and it turned out that Sadam WAS manufacturing new WMDs?
I used the original title, as I usually do. BTW, this isn't the first time something like this has been reported: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/07/AR2006030700216.html That makes it ok then
Go on. You're saying the invasion of Iraq it had nothing to do with 9/11. I didn't say that Iraq did have anything to do with causing 9/11. I said that we had Intel saying that Iraq was building WMDs, and in the aftermath of 9/11, the political pressure was on the president to act based on any intel he had that pointed at a threat to the US people. The only link to 9/11 that I have drawn is the political pressure and the cultural outlook in the aftermath of 9/11. That said, I'd rather Osama had been captured than Saddam.
yes, I read it...and as I said previously, why didn't the DO something about it? All they did was nothing. maybe they informed the CIA, but if the french really thought this was important, they would have notified airlines, people, etc. Instead the incident still happened because nothing was done.
Bush also says there were no weapons of mass destruction. Of course, Saddam had weapons of mass destruction once upon a time, but we don't like to talk about those days: http://youtube.com/watch?v=r42oejmpkgw&mode=related&search=
At the hands of people you support. At the hands of people whom you give their credit away to others. If only you had the ability to see truth.
He also says there is a continuing threat and that pulling out of Iraq would be a huge mistake. In a broad spectrum, he is right. But some were found. You'd be surprised at how many would lie and say otherwise, right here in this forum. Some people are not concerned with their integrity though, right Briant; AGS?
1.it just goes to show that the common uneducated person thinks there is only one WMD, which is a nuclear weapon... 2.next up, AGS will post video of bush saying there were no WMD's....now go back to #1 and read it again.
