    Submitted a few. You might consider a few more subcategories as it fills out, IMHO. Best of luck with the directory! :)

    I also like the logo.

    From my experience it is much better start with a small number of general categories and add subcategories and move sites into the subcatagories as you do so. You do not want to have a directory full of empty categories when GoogleBot comes a calling. That is almost guaranteed to dump you into supplemental results.

    Also, don't leave it with the default skins. Jump into crash course mode and differentiate your directory ASAP. Smarty templates are a real pain to work with until you get down the learning curve.

    Submitted a few. Good luck with your directory. :D

    I agree that main categories are a decent way to start and build naturally, but there are a few subcategories that are essential;

    Shopping/jewelry
    Shopping/clothing

    Directories/free
    Directories/paid
    Directories/niche

    How can you promote and manage a directory when you have no idea on how to code the thing? It's great that you want to learn but before you go out in the over crowded directory field I would recommend you take some time and get familiar with the templates and putting your own look and fell to the thing.

    Did I miss out on the first 500? Would you disable image validation?

    Hard to believe, but I had to make it paid to slow down the submission:D Couldn't keep up. I'll remove the image verification for a couple of days.
