Found out why I was getting denied (I think)

Recently I've applied to more CJ programs, but I've been getting denied by about 50% of them.

Today I got denied again and it pissed me off, so I contacted the affiliate program, which is in my home city.

That's when I found out that I was denied for having a myspace.com page. As one who has never had a myspace.com page (yep, believe it), I was stunned.

So, I'm contacting CJ to try and figure this out, but if anyone is getting denied and they have good sites on their own domains, you might want to contact the program to ask why you were denied. Make sure they don't have wrong information on you.

What a pain in the ass.

I wonder what other wrong info is being passed.

How did they know you had a myspace page?

Why on earth would having a Myspace page matter, especially if not related to the site(s) in your CJ account?

    I don't understand this either.

Was the myspace page somehow linked to your account?

I think that happens if you haven't made any affiliate sales in a certain amount of time.

The Publisher Service Agreement that you agreed to when you signed up says that your account will be disabled after 6 months of no sales. This is to keep the network clean - I've managed affiliate programs in both LinkShare & CJ, and LinkShare is so much harder to use for recruiting because of the thousands & thousands of dormant accounts (and LinkShare doesn't show earnings bars or EPCs for affiliates).

My guess is that it's because Myspace is considered a spam palace for marketers. So, if you list it as a place you'll be promoting, they don't want it.

I've never used Myspace as I've always found it a bit amateurish.

As to my profile, I checked and there's nothing wrong.

CJ got back to me today and said they looked too. No myspace.

Who knows. Screw it. I'm tired of hourly wage workers doing piss poor jobs.

I'm just adding companies that deny me to my "don't do business with" list. I'll promote their competitors instead.

Sounds like a good place to stay away from! If they are saying you can not use them because of a non existent myspace.com thing.. LOL

About like you said, wonder what other false info they pass along or use in their criteria?

OK. Gotcha. From the original post, it sounded like they found out you had one even though it wasn't listed in the account, which is why it didn't make sense to me. I can't imagine why anyone would include that in a CJ account anyway... if you want to advertise affiliate products, get a website. So can't blame them for that. Not sure how they screwed up though... their loss.

Name the advertiser(s) who didn't approve you because of a myspace page. There is nothing wrong with warning others about their actions.

Most advertisers decline people with MySpace pages. The issue here is sloppy work though, not MySpace.

Yeah, let me be very clear.

I've never had a Myspace page.

And if I did, I surely wouldn't include it in my profile when I have hundreds of domains and multiple servers at my disposal. ;)

    Myspace is amateur fodder.

Well that's certainly debatable. For general Internet marketing, I completely agree. But for networking with independent musicians who later become clients (not by spamming them), nothing beats it yet. ;)

    Facebook. ;)

It's cleaner and more grown up.

But like anything, Myspace has its uses.

Don't get me started on Facebook. For my uses, Facebook is pretty much worthless. If you're reaching college kids, it's probably the better option. If you're reaching bands, Myspace beats it hands down. And if you're trying to target this, that, or the other group, your best bet is using more targeted niche tools / networks for whoever you're wanting to do business with. But I know you already know that.

Many professionals are on Facebook and many are migrating from Myspace to Facebook.

It's not just some college thing anymore. :)

I don't target bands, so I'll defer to you on that one. You definitely have to go where your target is, regardless of the scenery.
