I may be wrong but i think i have found an alternative to dmoz. Although so far i have only one case to prove that. I have a website which has hardly around 30 links but still ranks with very good keywords in google. It is not listed in either in dmoz or yahoo. But it got links from many pages of thomasnet.com

I would like to experiment some more cases but it will be very interesting to know if anybody has gone through same experiance.

Actually Thomas Register has been around years before dmoz.

They are a very reputable source for finding engineering related resources in the United States.

I remember my father used to keep some editions at home and would look through them every now and then.

So it depends on the type of business you are listing.

People listing on thomasnet.com are not worried about seo or serps but more about being found by the right audience.

meaning, listing ur site on thomas.net is not an seo thing and if I was to list my site there, i would not be worried about seo, rather i would want my site to be found by the audience that visits it.
