i just figured a domain which is similer to another sold for US $4000...lets consider 'supercar.com' which got the bid for $4000! i figured another one say, 'supercars.com' which is available...should i consider it to buy and sell it later for a few hundred bucks? i guess its going to b a good burgain for those bidders who lost the bid! what do you say?

I used to do this . I have seen PorscheWorld.com was sold in eBay for 1,000$ .So I registered PorscheWorlds.com for 6.95$ . And I sold it in eBay for 5 USD :(

There is a big difference between

    supercar & supercars

    versus

    porscheworld & porscheworlds

    Porscheworlds makes no sense.
If you feel its more 'supercars' then buy it
If its more like porscheworlds then walk away and save yourself a few bucks.

For the price of domain names I'd say it's worth a pop. Just to be on the safe side stick to domains that you can actually use yourself, even if it's just parking a few ads there.

Many moons ago (around 7/8 years), the domain loans.com sold for $M's, I registered the domain Loansco.com believing that if Loans was worth $M's then Loansco must be worth $xx,xxx. How wrong could I be?

A recent appraisal rated the domain as $xx - but I have regisitered it for 10 years so I will keep it and maybe one day develop it as I like the domain.

Register the domain, put it up for auction but at the same time develop it because if the domain really is that good, you should at the very least be able to earn a little from Adsense and you won't be disappointed.

    Cheers

SuperCars.com is taken and it is registered since 1997.

There is only one "world", so I don't like your domain very much. But there are millions of "cars", so I think it gives sense.

thnx for the input guys. helped a lot. much appreciated....and sad for 'kong 707'... as im doing some sort of research in here...im learning the system and if it sells for $1 more then its cost, its a green signal for me to digg further...i dont care if it doesnt sell for another $100...i dont mind parking it and who knows parking could be worth its cost..i just dont mind giving it a try.

from the inputs of u guys i figured that the meaning of the domain is a lot importent....well do you think 'dvdburns' stands the same or less chance as 'dvdburn' do? if 'dvdburn' is worth thousands, could 'dvdburns' be worth hundreds? and what do you think about 'dvdburning' or 'burnindvd' ? i wish i could tell you guys the exact domain so you could sujjest what to do...lol you know thats not possible anyway the domain i figured out is about high definition movies and blueray disks...and its truly an unique one. for all those loosers...might not b that easy to catch the fish

In domaining world there is a difference between both of them.

I have some domains and some other people have purchased its singular and sometimes plural domains so that they can also take a piece of pie when I sell my domains off. But they are crying right now because I am getting offers and not selling my domains. While they are not even getting reg fee offers.

The example of supercars is not giving any idea. If the exact domain name is shown then someone can give you some advice. Yes please do register the domain name before showing it off to others for advice. Someone might just register it the moment you show it on thread. You will be wondering who did this.

thnx for the input nick...just so you know...i dont want to be those suckers. i would rather like to be you. quality is the thing that is in my mind. my primary goal is to understand the system and catch trully potential and unique domains. not crappy copycat domains. it feels really bad to be a sucker... i dont consider myself being a looser and fall for the piece of pie...i want the pie instead. so i guess i dont have anything to loose right? i had a chance to buy a 3 letter domain but it didnt appear to me worth $50-$60 so i didnt give it a shot...i have no idea if i played like a fool but that domain just didnt make any sence to me!

Well friend it happens sometimes. I have seen some domains 2 years ago. Even rejected from my list of to be registered domains.

Now they are selling on my own forum :D And I am watching it.

But it happens. I have got profits from the domains that I registered instead of that ones. So all in all it is good.

We can't have all domains. Plus if you want the whole pie then I think that spend sometimes pondering on the lists after registration there is 1 whole year. But before registration sometimes we don't even think for 5 seconds.

If you are in a business of just buying expired domains and re-selling them again for more $$, then you should not register the domain(s) for more than a year, especially if you dont want to start any sites on it. IMO, it would be better if you buy it, and sell it off in the next months for a profit.

The sale of a domain similar to one you own or buy is often irrelevent. Often when you see a big sale go down, people buy all sorts of variants of the name being peddled for much more than they are worth. If a large company just bought SuperDuperRandomKeyword.com, it doesn't make everything else with the same super duper or keyword suddenly valuable. Though you might be able to flip for a tiny bit of cash say sell for 10 buying at 7? But did you really make money? How long did it take to buy that name, find a buyer, and get everything done? Was all that time worth a couple bucks? If yes, then go for it, flip names. I have no problem flipping names, just keep in mind your time may not scale as nicely (how many times can you do this a day? week? month?) and your TIME IS WORTH SOMETHING.

Other sales can be a great reference to reinforce the value of your name, but if the domain is available in this day and age, it's probably been through the filters a few times at tasting companies and such or it is really bad. Just my 2 cents. There are a few gems out there, but you have to be careufl about what you buy, could save you a lot of time and money :)
