I'm thinking about buying a forum, it gets 1.7k uniques daily, ACTIVE members, mods, admins. Very active. Based on a popular band. 1 year old.

Our users have posted a total of 127525 articles
    We have 1723 registered users

    How much would YOU pay?

    How would you monitize it?

is it making any money now?

You could use amazon.com affiliate programs for band related stuff. Or maybe ebay ads, also band related stuff.

IMO, my experiment with developing a community is turning into a success. The great thing about a successful community is that the users are not just there for the information, they are their for the community feel, the one on one help from other users of the same rank, etc .. so it is in their best interest to keep the community alive // do their part in increasing the community revenue in order for more services / content to be researched, programmed, and provided.

i've been open nearing 3 whole months now, and I just had my first ever $15 day in adsense! i run other targeted banner programs, and am going to monetize even further by selling text links.

Forum can be tricky, I bough this forum last year, it was very busy, had lots of post etc etc but I have problem making money out of it.
I have another far less busy forum I started myself but because of the theme I am making money (not a lot just about $2,000 per year) but I am yet to make a penny from the very busy forum I bough so subject matter of the forum and age group of members is the key to the forum value.
If forum members are predominantly young people (who do not have credit card) you are unlikely to make much money, however if the forum attract the older people the value of the forum increases as you chance of selling to members or selling 3rd party access to member can be valuable.
I will also urge you to verify the stats and membership figures............... after buy the forum I bough I found hundreds of bogus member the previous owner added to inflate membership.

    Good luck

If all the info about the forum are genuine, $2.7K is a good price. I emphasise the word genuine because of my experince with a foum I bough, all the figures I was given before buying it were not accurate after I bough it and check things out many things were not what the seemed.

trouble with bands is they come and go. If the next album flops will the record label drop them? Once they are yesterdays news, the forum will be too.

    Not a chance.

Forums, from what I hear, are hard to monetize. As for 3k uniques a day, that is really not that much traffic, and with a forum, I'd bet that a good number of those are the same 3k everyday.

Totally depends on the topic and how valuable the traffic is. 3K daily uniques for a video game site is not worth anywhere near $2.7K (probably anyways). 3K daily uniques from Doctors and I'd snap it up in a minute.

For a band I would leave it alone and move on.

I think there can be alot of work with maintaining the forum and making sure that there is no spam and things. It can take alot of time, and is something that I wouldn't be interested in, but I know others would be interested and can most probably earn from it in someway. If noone were interested then there would be no forums on the web. lol
