Minstrel, I did say the same thing to them, remember, stay on topic and they understood the message. Yes it is an important thread to the community, but they are new members here and I think they have got the message. OK, so maybe we can get back to posting on the forum disasters and what is being done to stop the attacks. I know of one forum owner that just dropped phpBB and moved to Vbulletin so he can get some support. That was his solution.
If they understood, why are they still posting things like "here's 20 cents call someone who cares" in this thread? And why are you still posting things like "you're making a big deal about nothing"?
I don't think it is that big of a deal and the old members that are pissed off are taking the thread off topic by being mad at some new members. Now can we end this, welcome the new members and get on with it? I will start, I am sorry, I hope others can be also, now let us move on.
Thank you Anthony for trying to defend us. I Appriciate it. But I Think Minstrel is most probably right on this one. I know, personally, that there is nothing more annoying than having new members join a forum and post-whore in places that are not meant to be post whored in. Myself & Cherry did not mean to anger anyone or piss anyone off. But i can see that we managed to. I really do apologise perfusely. Don't worry - It won't happen again. I will stop posting here. It's not a big deal. Take Care. Kind Regards, Carmella
at least we act our age i wish you would.......... ive never came across anyone so ignorant before........ so anyway have a nice life you dont want new members here.... no problem cya
Not true girls, Minstrel is just upset because he put a lot of effort into this thread, he is just mad like you are now. So we can still patch things up, the last thing that we want is for you all to quit the forum.
Hey Anthony, cherry joined here because she just wanted to bother me. She found here becuase of my nick name. she is a kind of database/forum worm - slowdowns the DB servers (even more dangerous than santy worm) . Mysql has to publish a patch. Carmella is okey, she is nice girl and not rude like cherry.
OK, they are now viruses, do you think that someone posting on a forum is going to take the forum down?? In other words, Shawn is not smart enough to deal with this double threat
Just to come back on topic I lost the Nursing NLP forum. My mates server was trashed just before Christmas. When I get round to putting the site back online, I'm thinking of sticking to yahoo groups
Yes it is a General Chat forum, but Minstrel was upset because these fine young girls joined the forum and were having fun in a thread about hackers attacking forums. He made major contributions to this thread and was just upset. You can start a thread on any subject in General chat, Digital Point just wants us to stick to the topic of the specific thread, that's all Welcome to the forum
Back on topic, Mella mentioned that her forum was taken out by hackers and all their files destroyed and that they have to start over, I mentioned to her to switch to VB from phpBB. Also VB forums are still being attacked by traffic bots or worms it seems, a VB forum I belong to was down for a couple hours today and they had like 187 guests in the forum and I don't think they were spiders 187 guests is not normal for that forum and I remember Shawn had the same problem the day they attacked DP and that is documented in this thread.
There are so many attacks on forums at the moment... I don't have a clue what can be done about it, but it just seems so harsh. Not only are you attacking a web site, but you're taking down a whole community at the same time...
My forums are still recording 8-9K sql injection type attacks daily, Figgered these would have been slowed down a bit by now. Only saving grace is through the .htaccss to stop them from jamming up the sid table.
Switching to vBulletin is NOT going to solve the basic problem, which is a php vulnerability. As you note yourself, AC, vBulletin boards have also been hit with DoS attacks. There are ways to deter these attacks for both vBulletin and phpBB boards. First, upgrade to the latest version of whatever software you're using. Then make sure you're using a later version of PHP. And finally add code to make hits using the malicious code "die" -- I think this is most effectively done either at the server level if you can or by specifically targetting the search strings being used in your PHP code.
Actually, the "threat" announced in that thread is, according to the thread itself, not a threat to version 2.0.11 -- but it's appalling to find a forum like that one where they are actually discussing and distributing these things.
