Forums vs Social Networking sites - which is best?

Hi there! Quite new here, but I thought I'd pose this q to see what the general consensus was! I know it matters none, but thought it may be a good topic of debate !

In my opinion, I prefer social networking as there's the more personal feel of keeping up to date with friends, but it's a close one, as forums are obviously much better for meeting new people interested in the topics that interest you too.

Anyone else?

social networks are "messy" in my eyes with all their features and many unneccessary ones

 

The thing about social networking sites, is that there are many NEW visitors. Forums usually have the same visitors so you're not generating as much traffic.

 

I like forums a lot more than social networks. I use to have a personal myspace but canceled it a while ago...so much fake BS, i felt like i was in jr high again. I still have a myspace that i use only for marketing a website i have though.

 

forums, because you can also make money (selling sigs) ;D

Depends on your objective. Social networking sites are meant for spending your time in leisure. You rarely gain any technical knowledge there. Traffic from it is also crap.
Forums are different altogether and here you gain invaluable webmaster knowledge and the time spent here is worth, especially in dp. I support forums
