    I do not think it is a total waste, but getting backlinks from only one forum is a waste of time for sure.

    if you decide to do forum posting for creating backlinks, you should not stick to a single forum, try to post on couple of forums which gets indexed by google regularly :)

    yeah forum will drive more traffic to a site but it is very difficult to turn forum traffic into business.

    See replying on forums just doesent mean saying " Thank you " or PM ME this or that. Replying as providing a information which will be useful for the people talking on the thread is what will get you traffic and respect amoong the members. By the way I have found one thing.... If we buy forum signatures from a gusy with 5000 posts or so on the older posts where our signature will be shown does not get cached only the new posts get cached so that can be debated if it works or not but still it wont hurt to give it a shot :)

    It depends on "follow" and "nofollow" backlinks....
    many forums uses nofollow backlinks which are useless
    but follow backlinks are important and very usefull
    DP provides follow backlinks......
