forums.example.com or www.exampleforum.com?

    Which would be better, there will be no www.example.com if there was a forums.example.com

    So which would be better? Or something different?

    exampleforum.com from an SEO standpoint, would be my choice. also from a word of mouth view, exampleforum.com is more easily memorable than say forums.example.com

    having an active community trumps either.

    if the main aspect of the site is a forum, then keywordforum.com. if the main aspect of the site is news or other content then forum.keyword.com.

    It depends how well you can brand it. If the www.example.com can be a blog, or a content management system that gets updated with relevant information. Or if you set up the front page as a news portal for the forum.

    Then when people venture further and wish to sign up, join in and discuss they are in the forums.example.com part of the site, without even knowing.

    Personally I'd go with exampleforum.com if example.com is unavailable. Because if someone else has example.com and have themselves a forum, they'll look like the instigator and the leader.

    I think forums.example.com is good because there might be chances to appear in search results with "forums" keywords.
