I'm wondering, since there is a clause in the TOS that GoogleBot has to be able to spider every page viewable, how do forums get away with displaying ads on pages such as the CP etc, if those pages are not public and GoogleBot is not able to access them? Thanks!
Googlebot and spidering have nothing to do with the ads. They are cralwed by a totally different bot, which I is called as soon as you open the page.
yeah, but what I'm wondering is how that spider gets to the page if the bot doesn't have access. ie in a password protected area such as a user control panel...
I sometimes get ads on my desktop when I am using frontpage to create a page... I guess the bot will go wherever it is called from
Or in frontpage? I get them in there when I am creating pages. If they are showing ads on your desktop, better check it out. One word...spyware
You know what I mean, I am working on frontpage on a page that isn't even live yet and when I preview it I get ads on it There is just no way I could ever get spyware on my PC... it is like the pentagon, no spyware could manage to get pass my barriers
When I am in frontpage, sometimes in design I get public service ads, but regular ads in preview. If you are connected to the net, frontpage is connected also, so things go live in preview.
But back to the original question -- is it ok to have ads where unauthenticated users view things? Ie logged in.
Well, that's what wondering really. Is it against the TOS to have ads where GoogleBot or whatever spider they use, can't reach?
