I'm thinking about buying a webhost and starting a forum.

I want the forum to be IPB

My mate said I have to upload the forum to my webhost

    Is this true?

And where can I download/purchase a IPB forum so I can upload it too my host?

PhpBB is not very good TBH.

If you want a free forum SMF is the best.

This forum is vBulletin, which is the best paid solution in my opinion

I would have to disagree. The best free forum software has to be myBB.

Did you pay for IPB? If you didn't you are going to run in to problems.

Many webhosting companies offer 'Fantastico Scripts' or 'Fantastico Deluxe' as some of their main features, this is an addon through cPanel. These are very commonly found nowadays and as nofullstop said yes your company should be able to guide you in order to setup up your forum in a few clicks, this is generally for the beginner, I would recommend it to you. The scripts offered by this is generally myBB, phpBB 2 and SMF.

If your looking just to run a forum for a non-profitable organisation or a social based website, I would not recommend spending money on expensive forum software as free software is generally just as good and is more suited. I would recommend phpBB 3 or 2 for a nice scaleable forum or IPB v1.3 if you can get your hands on it. IPB 2.0 requires a licence that isn't particularily cheap, so does vBulletin, and yes I agree that vBulletin is the best forum software available to this present day.

I hope my post has helped mate.

You have to upload the forum software to your host, then just configure it.

Then thats it, people join, and your forum starts building up
