Could you suggest a good FORUM code like vBuliten used here , that has all the features of VBuliten but is free ? I wish to make a forum on PHP/MySQL and cant afford the lisensing cost of vBuliten ... I want some open source forum code that has all the features of vBulitein .
Unfortunately such forum does not exist, all the free forums have saw draw backs, the best of the free forum is phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/) there lots of free hacks and mods you can apply to phpBB to make it function as near to VB as possible but the only way to get a real VB is to pay for it.
thanks for the reply dude .. I think i'll settle with phpbb and the mods cant afford 70-100$ for a free forum code
Actually i disagree. The better free software is SMF. It is more widely used, has better support, and easier to mod. The security is also better.
I agree..SMF is hell alot better then PHPBB i recommend you mybb or smf since phpbb is not secure! Saad
thanks for the opinions guys .. so.. are SMF and mybb free ? or do i have to pay for a license ? EDITED : OK .. Googled them ... thanks a looot guys It helped a lot
I use MyBB, and love it (on AllFreelancing.com now). I've used SMF in the past, but didn't like it quite as much... not sure why; just a mybb fan.
By the looks of it, mybb looks simple, neat and easy .. . SMF has better looks and has a nice collection of mods .. Will try installing both and work on them for them for sometime before choosing the one for my site .
Simply put, SMF has excellent mods (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/ ) and its SSI (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=400 ) is what sets it apart from most of the other Forum software out there. It is very customizable (free Themes examples - http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/ ) and scalable as well.
