The biggest mistake you make right now is that you want to promote it!

    But why ????

It has only 1 thread on the entire forum..

Nobody would want to join your forum!

    What you need to do:

Post for 1 week long every day 10 threads.. make interesting ones and submit them to social bookmark sites such as Stumble Upon

After this week... you have around 70 threads and you already got some traffic in through the social bookmarking sites!

Now you can start to promote and trying to get new members in!

That is how I started my Webmaster Forum

Good Luck and keep us updated :)

I agree with King Nomar. People want to see a populated forum before they start to join it. If you want to really get people to join, do what he said; make a bunch of threads over the next few days (minimum ten a day) and then you can start to promote it. Submit to stumble and the such and you'll find yourself getting traffic slowly. Then, as you make more and more threads, people will sign up.

Another thing I recommend doing once you have gotten your forum up and going is to hold a contest. Now that you have all these threads, if people see that you have a contest, they will sign up and that'll make them post on existing threads. By having them post on existing threads, it shows the forum is popular and active and that'll bring more people to it. It's a domino effect really.

Agreed - you need to at least have the appearance of an active forum for people to join. You may want to consider hiring forum posters to post in your forums, start threads and make it look active.

look in the buy, sell, trade forum for paid forum posters - they will help you build up the forum and make it look active.

Yes, after all if you are not interested in posting in your own forum then why would some one else?

Starting a forum is easy, but running it and making it successful is quite a tough job, one which requires constant TLC from the forum admin. Get your family and friends to post along side you, hire some paid posters if you can, participate in post exchange etc. to ensure your forum receives fresh new posts every day and people who do trickle in are prompted to join it.

Yup, a post exchange is a great way !

my forum almost reached 10,000 posts, but I still need to be very active and posting alot, otherwise it would die!

Same principles apply as to any advertising

Why would a visitor register, signup, buy...there has to be something there to solve a problem for them.

In other words : Whats in it for the visitor,,Answer that and you have your solution

    Hope that helps some

http://www.Theadminzone.com also have a good post exchange running where you post on other people's forums in exhange for receiving posts on yours.

It's helped me get to 500 posts in 2 weeks. Not to bad I think for a new forum.

    Agree with KingNomar.

Get lots of content up and when visitors see them, like what they read they'll join your forum...
