We need a sub-forum of "forum management" so forum owners can group together and make a team. Every month a list of sites is released. We all register and post 20 posts on that forum when/if you have completed this then the next month your site will be on the list. This would be great for forum launches, or when your forum is drying up and on top of that, it is completely fair.
Sounds like a good idea, but i haven't seen many threads on this topic here. Shawn would create a sub-forum only if he sees many people talking about it.
You are right, TAZ has something similar. Additionally I doubt how much useful it will be. Its not the only posts which attracts new users its also about the quality of those posts.
I believe GuyFromChicago has a forum dealing with forum management. By this I am not ina any way implying his forum has anything to do with paid to posts, or post exchange schemes. You might ask his the next time you see him.
I personally dislike the concept. If you have an interesting forum theme and interesting posts, you shouldn't need to pay or otherwise fake posts to get the thing going. And if you do, what happens when the fake members get bored and stop posting?
Been tried by at least two people in DP about a month or so ago. One died before it got started. The other, I have never heard of it again. Kind of hard to get say 20 people to agree to post on 19 other forums once a week just to get 19 others to post on their forum.
Theadminzone one sort of died. And minstrel, not everyone has an active forums like yours so this is a "small boost" for those who are struggling somewhat.
How do you think my forum, this forum, or any other forum becomes active? I didn't inherit it - I created it. But I did it from the outset with a view to the long term - building gradually, encouraging new members when they arrived, and gradually using word of mouth - not gimmicks or shills or fake posters - to grow the membership. Most of those forums who use "get rich quick" schemes to boost membership won't last beyond a few months anyway. And for good reason - most of them don't have sufficient substance to justify surviving.
