By all means, let's have a porn forum. And then pro-anorexia and pro-suicide forums. And then special forums for hate mongering. Why not? They're probably pretty popular searches too...
I think you are all missing the point. The posts are already going on! Just go take a look for yourself. I would rather know that there is a section for this... rather than run accross it when I'm not prepared. Why not just create a section for it??? It can be done semi easy... don't you have to enter a birthday in VB when you register??? Just make that forum only viewable to registered members that are over 18 years of age.
Some of us have higher moral standards (Hince I'll be a virgin until death, since no chick will ever date me!!) And no, I didn't send you red, though it's extremely tempting to, when looking at that 'I disapprove of porn.' option!!!
Actually, you're both partly right. Most of the self-promoting threads were started by Toots to use Nintendo to promote his sites...
er all I ever promote is wackoism!!! Now, join us wackos!! You are either with us, or you are with the intelligent!!
minstrel, Fry, Nino & Mike- Don't get me wrong... I would not want this place to fill up with porn every where... I think it would be trashy. The problem is it is happening... little by little right now and as I see it there is two solutions: 1) Allow it in a specific place with restrictions or 2) Mods need to start deleting the porn URL's live or not.
This was actually the reason I suggested a seperate forum specifically to handle those types of sites and discussion -- they have been gradually creeping in anyway. However, I'm persuaded by what I've read so far in this thread to think it wasn't the best suggestion I've ever made.
I don't know why there's such a fuss about this. If there's an adult or casino or pharm section, or whatever ... if you don't care for it, then just don't participate in that forum. Just because a section is created hardly means DP is going to be a magnet for online porn kings. NetPond is where the heavyweight porn webmasters go. And before someone says "great - go to netpond then and keep the filth out of here!" ... I personally think if there are members here that want to discuss an internet marketing related subject they shouldn't be censored just because it goes againt the personal morals of some members. Lots of members are pretty vehement that black hat seo'ers are evil. Should we banish all of them or censor black hat topics too? Live and let live people.
If the adult stuff gets to the point that it warrants it's own section here it probably would get one. Although it would be a special "hidden" section that users would have to go out of their way to enable under the UserCP. Similar to how dmoz.org/Google Directory has an Adult section, but it's not seen off the normal navigation. http://dmoz.org/Adult/ http://directory.google.com/Top/Adult/
I really don't see what's that different between requesting a Wacko forum and a porn forum. They're both for people that are a little off from main society.
I would strongly recommend not to have an adult section. Once you make it officially ok to talk about the business, I believe that a lot of filth will follow. Within the first week we will all have porn spam in our PM boxes. Be careful what you wish for is all I can see. There's a big difference between being able to show a couple of nude Jennifer Aniston pics here and there and actually having a marketplace for those who are in this kind of business. Yeah, but we don't have a wacko board.
I really don't see what people think is going to happen. I mean I really don't think all of a sudden adult web owners are going to start posting hardcore fetish pictures in general chat at the same time Girl Scout Troop 14 joins up to ask how to promote their fundraiser website. It really doesn’t matter to me either way. Well maybe we’d have new people and they might be fun, but we’d probably have more idiots here, too. So it’d probably be a wash.
BINGO!! There's the solution to all the 'stupid pointless threads'!!!! A HIDDEN wacko board, though un-hidden would be MUCH better!!!!!
Now that's just silly. I don't care if it's porn, or a virgin white wedding dress webmaster, every once in a while you'll get some non-forum etiquette minding tool that does something like spam PM's. But, saying that somehow it's going to happen as a result of allowing porn topics to be discussed? I just don't get the logic And, it's not like people that are going to discuss porn are going to be posting porn pics so really what is the harm in allowing people to discuss it here? And then just think, then you'll have some really good targets for your red repping instead of just wasting it on me for suggesting we be open-minded
