I am planning on adding a forum to my website. Does phpbb index and get pagerank on google. Also which forum software is the best for search engines.

I've also used the able2know mod before and it's really good. Got my site hammered by Google!

You could SEO your VB Forums - www.vbseo.com

Also, I like www.seo-board.com as its easy to setup. Has no where near the features as VB, but if you need a good, quick, functional SEO forum, that one works well.

No. He said "Does phpbb index and get pagerank on google. Also which forum software is the best for search engines."

And keeping that in mind, I'd second Voasi's recommendatio of vB, but would say that with a few vbulletin.org hacks, you can still do more than fine without ploping down another $150 for vBSEO.

phpBB is probably the worst SEO'd forum out of the box...If you go with phpBB and are concerned about SEO, the first thing you should do is get rid of those session ID's...

That said, IPB and vB are much better out of the box, but they are also costly compared to phpBB ;)

I dont recommend vBSEO until your forums are well developed with plenty of revenue...until you reach that point, you should spend your hard-earned money on other stuff

cheers, I dont really fancy paying out the cash they are asking for the forum software, I guess once you are in its difficult to changeover to a different forum. I have decided on phpbb with the mod given in the 2nd post, as it has better funcionality, although I am concerned about it being spammed.

Even image verification wont stop all bots, unfortunately.

Have you looked into SMF? It is, in my opion, more feature-packed, secure, and easier to modify than phpBB. It's a great piece of software, and the best part is - it's free!

thanks GTACE, Just found the smf website, http://www.simplemachines.org/ it does look good, better than seo-board posted earlier.

Is it more search engine optimised, secure and usable than phpbb. I might install it simple machines forum on Friday.
