Well said - if you go into the forum with the mindset of simply contributing your best information and insight and post links appropriately, the SEO will take care of itself.
there is several reasons if you site is related to insurance but you have no much knowledge about insurance then how can you solve others problem .. and with put a post and thread you have no mean on forums ...
I agree with almost everybody on this thread. It is good to have signature links in forums that are in your niche while also having signature links in forums that are not in your niche as long as you are able to contribute something useful and helpful and, of course, related to the topic being discussed on the thread. For example, my niche is on web design but I am a single woman and I dream of an elegant and memorable wedding, so I am going to click on the signature link at the bottom of the post above me. I hope this post makes sense to you.
Ofcourse go to the relevant forum to post your signature. Because signature also do categories as quality and non quality.If you promote or show your signature that non related, then the link is no follow and won't have people look on it.
