    Are forum signatures useful in search engine optimization?

    I have seen that many users here in DP hiring forum signature. Why they are hiring it. I am sorry for silly question but I am beginner at SEO.

    Expert advice will be appreciated.

    Hi ,

    The main benifit of the signature links is that they are valid backlinks to your site.

    If a Forum poster has 1000 posts , and a link in their signature... Thats 1000 backlinks.

    Has been a benifit to me in the past in getting web sites crawled quickly by Google...

    It depends on who you ask. If you ask me, the traffic I receive from signature links is of more value than any PR/anchor text benefit I might get. If search engines see links as 'votes' a vote for yourself (i.e. a signature link) shouldn't count for much.

    Just be aware that not all forums allow search engines to see signature links.

    Thats a good point. Is there a way to tell if the forum allows the SE's to see the links?

    Look at the source of the page. If there is a 'nofollow' attribute on the link, then the SearchEngines won't use them to increase ranking for the site.

    Signature Links are very usefull in both ways - One is to get the search engines crawling purpose and second from that sig. links you can have potential users visit from DP.

    yes traffic is one, crawling faster is the other, but how bout search engine ranks? y didnt u guys mention that?
    for exmaple: i have my client's link here - and his ranks went wayyy up! :>

    Signature links' SE benefits vary from board to board and how each board is configured. Personally, I believe the value of signature links is DIRECT, not SE, traffic.
