Forum signature links are they worth the effort?

If you had a choice between blog commenting and forum signatures which would you go with it seems harder and harder to set up new forum profiles these days

Forums are getting to be a pain with all their new verification requirements.

I guess it's worth it but if try to do with without spamming. I think its good forums now has more touch rules and requirements. Which means less spam better for both forum owners and members.

I prefer forum profiles link. However, I submit only to the quality one eventhough it takes a lot of times.

Look beyond just securing the backlink. To me, sure, they are a benefit, however both blogs and forums can provide a massive amount of information from similar minded people. You'll be surprised at how much you'll learn from visiting blogs and forums.

If you have good questions, or can help someone out forum posts are great. I agree with bluearrow that tougher forum rules are a good thing. Useless "thanks" or "first" comments might get you a few paltry signature links, but who will click on that link? Also it damages the forum and reduces the benefit that you can get from your signature links.

Forum rules exist to help keep out spammers. It seems like comments are the new favored frontier for less commitment (no account signup mostly) and high value in search engines. My votes for related blog comments.

I believe that it's all about two things:

    1. High quality content: no matter if you do blog comments or forum posts. If it's of low quality it won't be any helpful. If it's high quality, both will bring you good traffic.

    2. Building a community: both forum posts (and traffic via your signature) and blog commenting are great for building a community. In the end it's all about people who trust you and want to do business with you. That's why long term strategies like building a community is the best way to do business (think about Seth Godin and his book "Tribes").

When it comes to discussion forums, I only use DP, because I believe it's better to be fairly known by adding good content to one forum, than not known at all on many forums.

In other words, I would do both forum postings and blog commenting. It doesn't have to take a lot of time.

I'd prefer forum signatures. As long as you don't spam and join the conversation and not just create a profile. Although blog commenting is still good.

I'd prefer incontent links posted by webmasters. Guys in Google knows that forum profiles and signatures and blog comments links are often used for spamming. And we made a few researches to find out which links are better. Contextual links are the best. Any user generated content is less effective.

You are probably right there dude! Google developers knows where spamming is regularly done, we aren't sure which links are better since we don't even know their algorithm.

Even if in theory forum links are depreciated in value ... the value of traffic generation still makes it a very useful approach (along with interacting with persons similar interests/problems)

If you're participating on a forum or blog with related content and you're offering value to the conversation, both can be of value. If however, you're just posting with the intent of getting links and you post garbage or irrelevant nonsense, then you're just wasting your time.

To make it very simple ,forum links are permanent not going to change at any time .
but blogs are little bit restricted and the owner can remove the link at any time

Its very simple forum links are permanent and they are there till the forum is live and not going to be deleted any time, the only thing you have to keep in mind is to give a very good & helpful reply or post in the forum. Whereas in blogs its quite difficult that they will surely accept your comment even if the comment is related to post.

According to me both blog commenting & forum signatures are tough.

For blog commenting you will have to search for related blogs to your website plus, they should be dofollow. Even after we got related blog with dofollow moderator should approve our comment.

For forum signatures we will have to complete required number of posting then it will get activated.
