So how does an average person (like me) know if a forum use "nofollow" or not!

For any page you want to check, click the "View Source" on your browser. It's usually under the View menu. That will bring up a box containing that specific page's title, meta tags, text, etc., etc. Then for that "Source" box simply use your browser's "Find" option and enter "nofollow" in the search box. Hit the Find button, and you will be taken to any instances of a nofollow.

I don't mind sig links but i don't use them neither here nor elsewhere because i have chosen to not do so. On the other hand, I can't stand people writing for the sole purpose of having their links displayed...

You might as well put a link in your sig not only because of potential direct clicks but because you'll index new sites and potentiall bump up your ranking if only a little.

I understand what you mean but 99% of people here use sig links so you might as well too.

thanks for the great info. It is true that it wont help PR much , but it is great because people really do click your links from the forum and you could get a lot of returning visitors with good content alone.

There may be discussion over how good backlinks from forums are for your site. But the thing to remember is whether it does a little good for your site, or does great things for your site, the effects are still positive.

Nice info, signature links are good to get a new site index by SE faster because of the frequent spider crawling.

No, links on a forum page are all treated the same, but this is a great list of reasons why they're not going to build SEO value.

good information but this guy should definitely get an award for being able to say the exact same thing in so many different ways.

"forum links are almost useless to SEO"
"forum links don't pass much link juice"
"forum links are not quality links"
    etc

A good post, pretty much summed up what I had concluded after reading the same thing over various other sites.

i think the benefit of signature links of a site like DP is not so much for the Google Juice but more for the clicks of a targeted market. let's face it, most of us here are affiliates for various schemes, new and old, and who are we trying to target? other web site owners of course, which the majority, if not all, of DP's members are. In my mind the google juice is just a bonus :)
