Forum Setup - which way?

    Hi all,

I am adding a forum to one of my websites. In terms of SEO, which way do you think is best:

    1. forum.me.com
    2. me.com/forum/

Putting it on its own domain is not an option because it's not too user friendly and takes away from the main site.

    Thanks

If you want to build more internal links to your main domain, then the second options is probably better.

As SE's will treat subdomain as its own entity.

I personally have mine set up through the second way.

    Ok. Thanks.

I really could not make up my mind so this is more of a "which way do you like" question.

I personally prefer forum.domainname.com. To me it makes the site look more organised.

My preference is for option #2 (Directory vs. Subdomain).

If your forum might get a little spammy, option 2 is good because it is not treated as the same domain. A second domain will still feed some popularity into the main domain.

For SEO purposes, a large relevant site beats a small relevant site with a feeder domain, so option 2 is your best bet.
