I would appreciate if anyone answers these questions: 1. What is the web space or bandwith (is 10, 000MB or more) that digitalpoint is presently occupying or using? 2. How can one get the bandwith size of any website or forum? 3. What web space or bandwith size do you recommend to start a forum which you believe would grow big?
1. DP Owners can better tell this . DP is on Dedicated server, space maybe over 120gb with 1500gb bandwidth, but it doesn't mean that DP with using all this. Contact DP leaders, may be they will tell you.. 2. Why do you want this ? I think, only site owners can tell this 3. Forums are going difficult to run now-a-days. People don't come to inactive/new forums. You need to work too hard. I believe 2gb space with around 50gb bandwidth only should be much better for you for start. I had a forum, have 5000 Uniques per day & I had 20gb space with 500gb bandwidth. I have had that forum for more than 1year & It just use 500mb space with 25gb bandwidth maximum. Hope this will help
Well for a forum that will be "big" I suggest you focus more on getting a reliable server. Space won't be that much of an issue unless you're allowing users to upload images/videos/files. Bandwidth might be a problem but I think you'll first encounter CPU usage problems before that. And to overcome the CPU usage issue you'll need either a VPS/dedicated server or one of those special hosts that work like VPS.
Thanks for this information. I am enlightened!!! May i also ask; how can i move my files or my forum from one webhost to another? All i know is that i can download all files to my desktop and upload them to another webhost. What do you think?
Simply, Copy all files & folders of your forum directory + Database using by your forum on your current hosting & paste all files and folders to your new hosting , make new database on your new hosting. Edit your config.php according to your database & import your forum database to your new database on new hosting & that's It
A forum as big and active as DP should be on 2 servers at least. One for Database and the other for apache. Once you setup the split you can easily build more slaves for growth. The hard part is the initial split to a second server. Sometimes 2 servers and cheaper than one.
Actually, this is the website hosting order i purchased for the forum: 10000 MB storage 30 GB/mo transfer 200 email mail acc. 15 Mysql Databases 20 FTP acc , 99.9% Uptime. Host 5 Domains Control Panel ( cpanel ) Is it very alright?. Moreover, is the monthly transfer the same thing as the bandwith?
