I came across the forum that has adsense profit sharing. I don't how it exactly works but basically the webmaster, the poster, and the first 3 responders get a percentation of the profits from each post.

I couldn't find the link to the site but you can email them at . I sent them an email but they haven't responded back to me. Just an fyi.

Yeah, entice people with money or something your site offers (such as if it's a hosting forum, offer them free hosting). That often works :)

Ok, before we begin, let me get your attention.

    My forum stats:
    http://www.survivalistboards.com/
    Threads: 25,630
    Posts: 283,236
    Members: 7,126
Active Members: 2,316 <--- visting every 30 days
In September my site got 37,354 post, 3,024 new threads and over 1.4 million page views.

Do I have your attention now?

    1. I promote my forum mainly through video hosting sites such as youtube - http://www.youtube.com/user/survivalistboards

Besides youtube, my videos are spread out over another dozen video sites such as metacafe, dailymotion, veoh, break, myspace video, yahoo video......... Instead of waiting for the people to go to you, you go to the people. Go to your target audience and put your pictures, videos or articles in front of them.

    2. I bought a couple of domain names that are close to my main forum and made these into portals. These portals have wordpress installed on them and have several articles and videos on them. And as a result the portal sites grab certain keywords and search engine results pages.

The portals also have RSS feeds straight from my main forum, so I do not have to update the portals on a regular basis. People can go to the portals, and see recent post straight from the main forum.

Take a look at this screen shot for search engine results. This picture was taken about 2 months ago - http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc194/kevcj/survivalgearforum-crop.jpg

Having a couple of simple portal pages allows you to grab more keywords then what one page might get you, and will show up on more results pages.

    3. Having the videos hosted on youtube takes the CPU and memory load off my server. So I am able to stream a single video to 3 or 4 of my sites without overloading my server. I get 3 - 4 times the exposure, with no overhead to me.

If you do not want to make videos, then what does your target nitch want? Is it pictures, pod cast, videos, articles, music or something else?? What every your audience wants, give it to them and promote your site at the same time.

    4. Embed the videos into your forum and you have instant content.

There, that is how I promote my forum.

A better way to drive quality traffic is networking through social media sites like Stumbleupon and Twitter and getting people truly interested in your niche to go to your forum. Reward your users through a contest only open to a current base of users through email and continue to build a loyal user base. Good Luck.:)

Hire some people to get it started. Having a forum with a bunch of people already active and getting paid to post there is the best way to seed one.

All of the above are great suggestions in getting forums going.

One way i have just started trying is to write an ebook which contains links to my forum.

I have submitted the ebook to loads of joint venture websites and set up www.themarketingebook.com for people to subscribe and receive this ebook.

Last time i used an ebook in this way to promote a website i got over 5000 subscribers.

So not only will my forums domain be seen by thousands but i also build a mailing list at the same time.
