    Since Panda some have complained that they are not getting as good a result with profiles as they used to, but it's still a great source of long term traffic and a means to rise up in the search engines

    most of the forum's home page have high PR but the internal where you are creating links are not of high PR and also the link juice is shared whit hundreds of comments. so they are not effective as we think. :)

    Yes it will be good for building backlinks and SEO. The more backlinks you have, the more targeted traffic you'll receive. But you need to make sure that the keyword you have is low competition and high volume of searches.

    I think there good for gaining link diversity, which is important, but I wouldn't try to use them alone, or as a high percentage of my backlinks.
