forum profiles is good for SEO?

I am wondering if building links via forum profile is really good to increase my website rankings..

 

Yes i agree with you, With in that you will be get good back links for your URL and also you will get to learn new things in SEO via forums because Internet Marketing is infinite no one can describe for that. So in that we will also learn new things day by day using forums.

 

I always include profile link building in my link building campagins, either pointing towards my main site or for buffering. They are still effective, although not as effective as they used to be...

 

The importance of profile backlinks are reduced over the time but they still have some SEO value and I am using them for my websites as well.

But I strongly suggest to use different link building techniques as Google loves diversification in backlink portfolio

It is more important now than ever to find high quality, high PR sites to create your forum profiles on, and add unique content to each profile. If all of your profiles look the same, it's way too easy for Google to discredit them all.

 

Generally, site-wide links has less weight or value than other types of links. The more natural the link, the more value it tends to have. I do notice a lot of profiles, dynamic briefs, and biographies showing up on SERPs so dismissing the value now may be a bit preemptive.. Certainly, it should not be treated as your "ace in the hole". ;o)

Well, it all depends on where do you put the links, if you just create a profile page only to place your link then that's a grey hat technique and google often frowns on that, but if you create a profile and participate in the forum then its not that bad .

 

This is true. While it's important to find high quality sites with high PR , actually finding one these days is difficult. I participate in forums more for increasing my online presence and traffic to my site.

Forums are great way to get customer feedback and is not very healthy discussion about skills and all members participate in this discussion and exchange of information is much easier and learning new methods and techniques.

If you need proof of the value of profiles/bios, just try doing some specific searches and see what turns up.. How many hits on XYDO, Twylah, Squidoo, StumbleUpon, Trunk.ly, and the like show up?

The key is to have enough context and content to make that content valuable. A stand-alone profile is nothing without click-through rates and/or link popularity. More importantly, and I'll keep saying, the social signals are becoming increasingly more important. Hope that sheds a new perspective for you all!
