I was checking out backlinks of some competitor sites this morning and noticed something that I thought was strange. This particular site had listings from forum posts where only a live http://www. address was used. No anchor text, just the address. Nothing unusual there, but... I kept looking and came upon forum posts that with the http://www. address (again no anchor text) that were not live links that were showing up as backlinks. These links (if you can even call them that) were not clickable at all, but still showing up as backlinks. I can see them coming up in search engine results if I were searching for that address. But I thought that link discovery software was to uncover live addresses, not plain text. What's going on here?
