If I had accumalated 5,000 posts on a PR3 forum, and I suddenly decided to put a link to my site in the sig, would that count as 5,000 pr3 backlinks?

just to get publicity - each webpage load is a page and ranks differently with google. example

    domain www.forum.com is pr 4
    post www.forum.com/category/topic/post1 is pr 0

Every thread ID is ranked differently, and every unique thread has a unique PR -- same thing goes for every page within that unique thread.

So is it worth getting links in sigs for PR purposes?

Also wouldn't Google consider it link spamming, suddenly getting 3,000 link backs.

I don't think so, since all the links are coming from the same domain. And google must already know how forums works.

PR passing to each post certainly varies, but page rank and SERPS are much more then where you place your link. Often the number of links can have an effect.

If you have 5000 posts with a sig, and assuming that ALL of them are indexed, then it will count for more then 5000 backlinks.

You have your profile, so that's automatically posts+1 but you also have individual post links, and various "new post" links (click into the thread from the index)

No as you have 5,000 links to your site but not every thread will have any PR.

People buy signature links so they get somewhat traffic to thier own sites,
    Just think.

You have your link 5000 topics and I think the forum owner will make sure every post is indexed, so its like submitting 5000 articles (Only if that is an active forum). Search engines send traffic to the forum and a part of it will go to the site advertised on your signature.

Whats more, forum members will also try clicking on that link and if you have a good reputation the advertisement will work eXtreme.

I read out there, that signatures in several pages of a forum count as a single link back to the Search Engines.

I think the reason most people use forum signatures - or buy sig space - is for the traffic, not the seo benefits.

What's better than a highly targeted, pre-qualified community made up of thousands of dedicated members? :)
