You just have to be strategic in doing the forum threading strategy. Avoid posting posting anchored money keyword in your signature. You can place ideal link only when necessary or else the moderators will remove it, or worse ban you. Maintain only the forums which are relevant to your niche. Give your answers and build your expertise on a particular topic. Be concise with your answer. Help. Detailed and with value. Avoid those spammy answers like "I agree" "Yeah that's right" or "Google it".

Forum links may be good for direct traffic to your site, but it is not a big factor in passing link juice.

Just posting on forums won't generate you any traffic, however if you direct the traffic from the forum, through signatures, posts & topics, you can generate traffic to any kind of website, as long as the forum, or at least the section your posting in of the forum, is related to your niche. You try promoting a Golf website on a forum about Fishing, your not going to end up with very good results, you start posting actively on a Fishing forum promoting your Fishing website, then you will start to see much better results. It's all about the technique which you use to get the users off the forum and onto your website, offering free content, like a free fishing guide for example, would be a sure way to get visitors to your website
