It is depends on your niche. You can search on Google for "[niche] + forums". There are plenty of quality dofollow forums awaiting for you.

Thats a nice and a huge list given by Osho3 here. But anyways you can search for forums on your own niche for better and relevant forums for you to participate on.

Go on big-boards.com they have hundreds of forums listed. Warning though: they aren't upkeeping the site anymore or adding any new ones {I know, I applied there for my forum some time back. They don't even take the $20 fee anymore!} But they still already got a good list going.

 

You're going to want to create your own list as time goes by. Many forums that are widely distributed on lists which are found here and on other IM forums lose their value as time goes by due to heavier use (and higher spam and junk posts)

Just like profile links, finding them yourself is your best bet long term.

 

There are lots of SEO expert in this forum. You can get advice from them. Best of luck.
