Forum Members Discussing Ads

    Hi,

A member complained about a particular ad in Google Adsense a couple of days ago. I responded with a vague answer but didn't actually mention Adsense, just why I thought this company were okay.

A couple of people have mentioned that advertising is what pays the bills, and one said something along the lines of "if you don't like the ads, don't click on them".

Is this whole discussion okay? Nothing has been said encouraging members to click, I guess I'm just uncomfortable about Adsense being mentioned at all.

Sorry, for some reason the edit won't work. I'm also paranoid because my revenue has gone up a bit in the past 2 days. I'm not sure if it's because I've re-organised my most popular page, and people are clicking more, or because attention has been drawn to the ads. I'm just getting nervous & wondered if Google could pull my account over the thread.

Vague discussion about the advertising shown is completely OK. I wouldn't even go into explaining exactly as tyhe system work as that in turn could prompt someone to try to "help you".

Just let them know if they are offended by an ad, PM or email an Admin and they will look into it (You can then block it if you like)

People talk about the ads displayed here all the time

    Thanks for that :)

Yes, I didn't mention Adsense at all, one or two of the moderators said it was advertising that paid the bills to run the site. But didn't say how the system works. I want to avoid at all cost the members knowing how it works incase they do as you say & try to "help" me. I'll actually delete the topic fairly quickly, just want to let the person whinging about the ad (the company she's complaining about is fine, lots of my members use them) to feel she's being heard.

Personally, I wouldn't use the phrase "pays the bills" just because any incitement for people to help pay those bills can become an issue but you aren't breaking the TOS by saying it.

Ads aren't out of the ordinary so on a smaller (or sometimes younger) forum its better to just leave it a bit of a mystery.

Hopefully nobody will decide to help me. I'm not sure they know how Adsense works, and when they click I get paid. I hope they don't figure it out.

I just hope it's due to the page revamp & not the thread. Another thing worrying me is because it was a particular ad, members actually clicking on it & visiting the site just for a sticky beak to see why this member was complaining.
