Forum link building seems like a real tedious way to build links. Is there a faster way?

everything is interconnected, the common denominator of all business signatures here is "online marketing" :D

Forum posting for links is much more then just your signature. Posting in a relevant forum with your sig can help, especially if you are posting top quality posts, but if you are taking the time to get in such quality, then toss in a few links into your posts. You'll find that the click through rate on a posted link is MUCH higher then a sig link. 9 times out of 10 I ignore sig links... but if there is a quality post that points to a resource, chances are I'll click on it. In the end it's HUMAN traffic you want, so that is VERY important!

Here, check this out: Forum Link Building tips (it's not just your signiture!)

Forum links work pretty well for low competition keywords. I use them to add some length to my "long Tail" searches.

they also give you some traffic if you post decent comments. Add some value to the forum and you will get back.

I wouldn't bother doing it. Why? Because you're spending maximum effort for minimum results. You want to do the opposite and spend the minimum effort for maximum results. I'd only build links in forums that are RELEVANT. Your SERP is highly dependent on relevancy. Backlinks that help to demonstrate the relevance of your site weight a lot more than just any random link from an unrelated place.

Hey the guy's talking about building links from websites that are IRRELEVANT to his niche. I'm building links that are relevant to my niche, since digital point is one of the largest forums in IM and MMO.

Yes, everyone sees you starting threads in many forums asking questions... It would be nice to have members join to have enlightening conversations, not just for building links... :(

Indeed! Link development must be one of your stupid secret tactics of earning quick cash online by the bucket load :D

    Though, how about this...

Check out the auto links in my sig... not much to do with webmastering is there? Well Google them and check the SERP. How is that for a waste of time for the effort?
