Sigs can effect PR, though that effect is likely minuscule, as most threads will be PR0 or Unranked. There is a slight cumulative effect though on boards with a high base PR, or so it seems (I do credit a PR3/PR4 changed based on 4k sig links).

Signatures will help more in traffic, product recognition and SERPS (keyword & anchor text).

One thing that it does help with is to show Search Engines that your site is current, and that "new links" keep popping up. Though, they are getting wise to link surges, so spending a day posting in 10 forums is likely not the way to go... do a forum a day, or a few forums every few days.

And again, encourage your friends to help out :D

I have compiled all of the points throughout this thread into one nice web page (nice being a figurative term).

    20 Steps to Forum Link-Building

It's on GooglePages, as I am a forum owner, and well, heh...I'm getting tired of people using my site as a testing ground. It would not be so bad if the morons would actually read the freaken points I've listed *sigh* but still they try fitting in directories with an Occult Forum. Though, I do have one fellow with a paranormal site that seems to be using this guide, and I have been enjoying his posts...

Either way, enjoy the more complete version, and if you have additional tips feel free to list them here.

Post in sticky threads and stay logged in as long as possible.

I've got a PR2-4 profile on nearly every forum I am a member on... and sticky threads get trickle down PR quicker then any other thread (check the sticky threads around here).

But keep in mind, that forum signatures are best used for traffic, as traffic is more important then PR. If it's PR you are wanting then you can just buy that.

Automated forum posting goes against the very grain and nature of the meaning of my original post! Robots do not a community make, and in order to properly assimilate one's self into a community to bring members to your own one would need to be a human.

So unless there have been huge advancements in AI I'm afraid that your software will not help...anyone

However, if you are a forum owner, then getting your fellow members to help out, can certainly assist, as those would be fellow humans ;)

when you are a member on ten forums and you wanted to post your first post with the tips. Then you have to type in 10 differrent URls, 10 times your login and pass, in a best case senario you have the text in a text file and have to always do copy and paste with it . Just because I use a auto system to do the same does not make it less human only faster. For a post like you made here it would be exactly what you need. You could have posted your Tips in 10 diffent forums and had 40 links back to your sites. People had fear of computers when they first came out as well. Sorry to disagree, but Automatation does not mean less human; just faster.

    What about replies?

What about actually adding to the community?

What about the interaction between humans on a DISCUSSION board?

Go on, plaster the same thing on several sites, but log back in and interact with people once you've posted. But if you log into my forum, post an article, then never check back till you log into post another one, then chances are you'll get labeled a spammer and will not get a 3rd chance, and your first two posts may just loose their links.

I think most mods will be on to those tricks, especially if you don't post you can expect your profile to disappear pretty quickly. A first post advertising something will last even less time. Most new forums will however tolerate someone who adds some conversation as it helps the forum look busier.
The moral is if you help the forum they will help you (sometimes).
