    Thanks for liking them :D

Would you happen to know of any "unsafe" methods, so I can know what not to do myself (or better, find a way to make them less bad)?

Got any other tips? I'm always looking for ways to improve my own methods ;)

Good tips, any one thinking of trying them just dont spam a forum. No one likes it and your link would be long gone in most forums before google bots get to it.

In every Forum/Admin based forum I'm a member of has thread after thread about how to get rid of manual spammers. So not spamming is something I can not stress enough. Be a part of the community and all you spam will stay :)

In fact, if you are genuinely helpful, people will Thank You for links to your site!

Indeed, and if played correctly, one can pull off several links via the threads themselves, which likely have a better CTR then sig links do. As people tend to read posts then scroll past the sig.

very very true there...at least I know I do...I'd say at least with me...the ration of my thread clicks vs sig clicks is probably about 200 to 1...

I would like to add, that it's more then just posting on topic and relevant information. If you are going to post a link, then that link should likely fit within context of not only the thread, but also the post.

There is a thread on my forum for respect and the discussion is rather loose so I don't mind it straying a bit. A new member just posted this:

The bolded part was a link to a boarding school directory site. I'm pretty sure, if the poster actually went to a boarding school it was NOT the one she linked too.

He second post is in a "homework myth" thread:
The post is dead on topic wise, so YAY FOR HER! The problem?

That's NOT a real sig! (but the link was real)

Needless to say, neither post is staying...

If you take the advice in my first post, go ahead & post links, go on & put your links in your sig...but spam is spam, and any board with a half way good staff will figure out if you don't belong. So, aside from being human, be a part of the actual community.

Very nice guide you put together, using an av right away is a great tip as it often distinguishes spammers from would be members.

This sums up some really important points quite nicely!

I would add: always try not to be spammy on forum posts, but add relevant information along with your links, so everyone will enjoy. :)

I've dabbled a little in using relevent forums to build links but haven't really gone to far with it. By the sounds of things it might be worth me getting back into it properly. Thanks for the tips Qryztufre's!

If you have a forum already, you can likely get a bit of help from your members. PM a few loyal people that you know may be a part of other communities as well and have them put your links in their sig.

Ask them first, if they seem unwilling, then offer them incentives...but be VERY strict in your 'spam policy' as we all know, if you want something done right you need to do it yourself! And getting your URL banned on other sites is just bad form.

One possibility is to start a "street team" that does this. Give them their own forum to discuss methods outside of the public eye. And then give them a few perks like custom titles, bigger avatars, larger inboxes. It's amazing what people will do for a few perks which cost you nothing ;)
