Whaddya know; DigitalPoint is ranking @ number 1 for the term; pile of wank (in the nicest possible way of course, Shawn).

Don't mess about, Mella, say what you really think for goodness sake!

'cause Minstrel did a 'definition:pile of wank' on G. I just wondered what would be number 1 for the same phrase in a normal search. lol

    Nintendo,

If the thread hadn't been hijacked I might... I've gone back 3 pages and can't see any mention of being removed. Perhaps its hidden from me?

Plenty of similarly unhelpful and/or off topic posts though...

    Thanks

Yeah, that wasn't very helpful, although one can understand the frustration. There are more than a few long threads where someone jumps in at the end and says, "What's going on?" - it's like someone coming in at the end of a movie and saying, "Hey... what's this movie about?". Adding the derogatory "Sherlock" at the end was unnecessary. On the other hand, when I first read your post I thought you were asking, "WTF happened to the pile of wank?'...

It's usually best to read the first page in a long thread if you haven't the time or interest to read the whole thing.

What happened was that the old drop down jump box was removed from the bottom of the threads and relocated as a DHTML drop-down menu at the top left of the nav bar -- "Forum Jump".

OK, I could have elaborated a bit further - sorry :$

I thought other people would notice this too… The forum jump link (top left) has now vanished. I meant what happened to the link as I have found it particularly useful!

It's still there and functioning for me.

Try to a hard refresh. Occasionally I find this forum doesn't completely load or it looks like it loads but the menus don't do anything.

Or are you saying you can't even SEE the "Forum Jump" menu item?

    Absolutely - not at all...

I've been using it for the last week or so and now it's gone...

    hard refresh: ctrl + F5?

Arhh.... Just realised I set my UA to googlebot this morning...

Yep that fixed it... doing a spot of cloaking here Shawn? ;)

If you were masquerading as Googlebot, wouldn't it be you doing the cloaking?

But no - it's not cloaking to remove elements from a site that you don't want indexed as long as you're not altering what Googlebot sees vs. what other people see. For example, it's not uncommon for forums to rserve things like Members lists and Private Messages lists for logged in registered members only. Similarly, casual anonymous visitors may not be able to view certain Members Only forums. As a Guest, Googelbot will never see those elements. That's not deception though. What Googlebot sees is the same thing any non-registered human visitor will see.

It's not cloaking, has nothing to do with Googlebot as a user agent, it has more to do with you not using a user agent that supports DHTML. You could use Internet Explorer 4.0 and they would disappear. The logic is to specifically show them for a capable browser, rather than try to figure out every possible browser that can't see them and do it that way.

I never use the jump feature, but while visiting a friend of mine with a restrictive firewall, the only easy way to get into DP'S different forums was by means of such feature
