Hey guys, 6 months ago I started a new webmaster forum! The details so far after 6 months starting from scratch: Members: 637 Threads: 1,657 Posts: 12,577 This means an average of 2000 + posts a month! Which is decent for a new forum in my opinion! You might think a certain market is saturated, but if you are dedicated and really are interested in the subject (and can talk about it all day) than you will succeed! Be dedicated and post! I see a lot of ppl starting forums and not posting anything, or only a few per week! Currently I am the top poster on the forum with 1,800 posts! Means that more than 10,000 posts are made by other users! If you want to start a forum, be dedicated and keep yourself up to date with the news in this business to post about! Just wanted to show you how far the forum went in only 6 months time from scratch! There are a lot of things that needs to be fixed, like the frontpage and the link directory. But it is starting to look like a real community now! Any comments are appreciated!
great forum! looks good to me except the 647 members in 6 months, of those, how many are actually active?
I'm pretty impressed with those results. Your forum statistics say you have 243 active members, which is pretty good. My forums have been up a few months longer than yours, and have quite a bit less activity, unfortunately. Of course, I haven't spent nearly as much time as I would like to on it, so I know that it is mostly me to blame. Just wondering, but what methods did you use to promote it, and which ones did you think were the most effective? Thanks, and good luck!
I think he used a few good contests to get it going. Its a good forum and has grown nicely over the past 6 months
Sounds good - I might go and have a look.... So, tell us how much your promotion has cost you? Are you making a profit yet or are you ploughing everything you earn straight back into it?
Currently it is not earning anything ! The plan was to monetize it in 2008 and start earning from it ! ofcourse that would go back in it for more promotion ! I spend already $ 500 on promotion in total I guess ! But without the money you can come on the right way also!!

I already kept several contest and they were successful ! got lot of new members in and posting! It is now getting a nice amount of SE traffic ! Also.. SE traffic stays for over 10 minutes on average, while people from refferers and direct will stay around 6 minutes on average! Interesting.....
Total costs are around $ 1000 I think ! The initial investment to only start (vBulletin license, theme) are already $ 200 + Spended around $ 500 on promotion, other $ 300 is for contests etc..

Congrats, the results you have achieved in just half a year are very very good considering the fact that there so many webmaster forums around now. You also have a nice forum design and you're right dedication plays a big part in if your going to succeed or not.
