Hi digital point forums, I built a search engine a while ago and I'm testing various forums. So far, I've tried Vanilla and am playing around with it. What do you guys suggest for a good forum setup on my site? Thank you, Bryan Cain
If you are looking for free web forum script then SMF is the best for your website. In paid version I would suggest you to go for vBulletin.
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out which overall direction I want to go in. A forum it's self seems like a GREAT way to generate content, keep people coming back, and build long term residual value. I observe this site and see that people are mostly here for the great forum. I'd like to have the same thing on my site eventually. I want to build a nice little community. I am still tinkering around with scripts like Vanilla. I am then considering testing phpBB. I like Vanilla so far because it's very basic. My friend suggested it and he owns an ecommerce company. Plus, it is OpenSource so I got solutions and Add-On's on a dime. It's neat but, I am also thinking that vB might be the way to go overall. I look at all the successful forums online. I would say all of them eventually went to vB or are vB to begin with... LoL. In terms of overall style and feel, do you guys like the vB application the best? I.E. - What distinctions stand out above all the other forum apps? Thanks for the input guys.
As long as there's a good community of mods/admins, then a forum is all about content. SMF - This is a nice little forum if you can't afford Vbulletin. It's easy to install add ons and templates and all kinds of other junk that you might need and it's very easy to manage. I used to use SMF and never had a single complaint. vBulletin - There is no explanation needed for this one. You can do every thing and then even some more with this handy little forum. It's just awesome.
