I have a wordpress installed on my website. Now I, intent to install a Forum for my Blog readers. It would be thin and low quality content on the Forum.

If I install Forum on a sub-domain, would it have a major negative impact on SEO of my blog and the whole website???

Not really. The only thing to note here is that a subdomain is viewed as an entirely separate and new domain. That is the only real consideration between foro.site.com and site.com/foro

Hope that helps. The latter obviously gets picked up first and provides faster juice to the main domain.

    Dear @Nigel Lew

Thanks for your prompt response. Someone told me that after these Panda and Penguin updates, the low quality content on sub-domains may also have an impact on SEO

And this is what Matt Cutts has to say about this -

While I follow your point here, this has been the case for a quite a while. I guess its how you define low quality but you should not do stuff with poor quality in the first place.

That is right... But what about user-satisfaction which comes from Forums... If Digital Point Forum wouldn't have been there - my query wouldnt have been resolved by such helpful people like you...

So I'm trying to ensure user-satisfaction without hurting Google....

If you are simply going to throw up something like a support forum its fine regardless. I would perhaps keep it on the same domain though. /forum is fine really.

Either way, I don't see how a support forum is low quality anything really. It just may not be that busy at first.

There is certainly nothing wrong with being helpful to clients or visitors.
