hey for all the forum owners, what number of posts do u think is enough for the forum to be self sufficient and considered to a good start? 10,000 posts?
I'm kind of new in this arena myself, but I don't think it's just the number of posts though. For instance, I have a forum that will break the 10K post mark this month, but there are two people that have over 1,000 posts each and a handful with over 250. Most people have in between 10 and 50 because they're new, but still. My point is really that when we get to the 10K mark, it won't really be a point where the forums has made it because 1% of the users will be responsible for something like 40% of the posts. There's a forum specifically for people who own forums with over 100,000 posts but I forget the name (I'm still a ways off from being eligible to join I think), but I'm sure there are some people there that have a much better idea than I do.
Depends on your niche. It's a lot easier to get too many posts and sign ups ina general/cell phone forum than on a let's say a strict Pilates forum. A forum is self sufficient IMo with the following. (but that's just what I think) For starters when people start to engage in discussions themselves without you having to hire posters or having to bring up discussions. 10K is a good mark but it doesn't really matter IMO, you could have less posts (if your forum is new). It just shouldn't look deserted All section gets new messages everyday. There's atleast around 12 people (5 members) online at any time.
whoa howd u get 2members to post 1000 posts with only a total of 10k?? u paid them? also theres a webmaster forum out there for forum owners only with 100K+?
Yeah, there are a couple that posted 250+, 500+ and 700+ I think too. The forum is only a month old (publicly, there have been private forums for 3 months). I didn't pay anyone, it's just a very good niche forum with TONS of information. The link is in my sig. I can't remember what that forums is called though...
IMO, returning visitors, new threads, post count, and PR all combine to tell if a forum is self sufficient, and considered to be good. Posts alone cannot be the deciding factor.
I thinks its easy to start a forum and fillin with a lot of post and its also easy to get people register but the most difficult part is to motivate them to participate thats what i am going through
i agree, but if u have phpbb, then maybe many members r spam bots... and many lurkers on forums...but i notice controversy initiates posts
