    Hey,

I am not sure if i need a partner or not, of curse depends which partner it will be.

I have a forum and i see a great potential both on the domain name i have and the forum revenue, most of the forum revenue is going to be from selling ads space, there are forums already who earn about $1,000 a month from selling space on the forum and they have 20,000 members and they achieved it in about 2 years.

now don't think it's a get rich idea becasue it's not and it should have lot's of investments on advertising.
do you think it's good to have a partner? because as i can see it i dont know if i can handle 20,000 members when i achieve it, it seems too much so why not to aquiere a partner from the beginning?

you can be the sole owner. that you need is a reliable admins or moderators. there are many of poster/members that would willing to help you manage the forums. you also can pay/reward them if they work good though. so i think if you can handle lots of hard works at the beginning being only owner is the best choice.

You definitely will need moderators the spam that goes inside forums is incredible. Business partners are good if you know them and you know that they are good at marketing your site.

hmm yea, i will need a budget and then use other people's one time services to promote it, and also hire moderators for cash or free, where should i post an inquiry about moderators?

I think you need to go for amore niche forum. General forum space is already a crowded market that can be difficult to make popular. But if you do choose to go for a niche, make sure it is one that has great potential in terms of numbers that might use it.

if i will have a success on a the general forum space it will have lot's of revenue... (see DTM) but if i choose a more niche forum (i don't have anything specific i would like to discusse about) then it wont be ad space sell able... what i'm trying to say is.. if you make a forum then go only after general forum with big budget and good friends/partners or just don't make a forum (much easier).
and general forum has more excitement to promote it

Your forum is looking good to me. I will join it later.

Just a suggestion: I would recommend you to use VBulletin for your forum instead of this SMF. VBulletin is VERY easy to control and also very easy to browse.

    All the best.

yes i will use paid forum system in the near feature, maybe IPB? most of the money making forums like DTM use it, my forum is like part of the options dp has and part of the options that DTM has and also lot's of good stuff to come, it's like a great domain\forum for all type of boards.

also i want to give free ad space on the forum just like dp does, when you start a post u have 50% chance that your adsense ad will show up, do u know how i do it on SMF?

i would just like to invest more on advertisment rather then on a forum system... it's like 150$~ that i can use for advertisement purposes

That's going to take you long time to reach your target. Besides, this industry is filled with webmasters kinda communities.

    time = money

if i can invest more cash, more advertisment i can get to what DTM did in about a year...

Yes, you are quite right in that general forums have bigger potential because there many different types of discussions on differnt topics that you can have. However, it seems to me this is already a very crowded markjet (just look at the number of people on this forum with either general or webmaster forums). Anyway, good luck with your forum.

how much forums u may know? believe me not too much and that is becasue of a lake of budget/advertisment. people will make a forum with free forum system and just hope other people will sign up, they can't make any real cash at the beginning and they will drop the idea. there are more hosting websites that offer hosting then forums... what i'm trying to say it's never too late to enter a market becasue internet is still so small and lot's of people don't know yet what a forum is.
