Forum Avatar - jpg or gif or png?

    Which file format of forum avatar should we use? .jpg, gif or png?

    all three of them are very standard. you can use any of them.

    use the three and you can also add bmp which has smaller size that will not take up too much space in your server.

    Which among the three formats mentioned is lightest that doesn't tax server resources that much?

    I believe people worry more about file size than file type. Going bellow 15KB can be annoying.

    jpeg with low quality probably would be lightest.
    then again you have to make a marriage of the quality with the file size.

    i use PNG file format to create images which gives me good quality and size. you may try all

    Windows bitmaps (.bmp) is a lossless format and is generally quite large. Additionally, it is not web standard graphic image, and should not be used on a website for avatars.
