Hey there, Somewhat of a noob here with some questions for you more experienced folks. A little background about me: I began to play around with domaining and adsense a few years ago. My two biggest accomplishments were, 1) creating a movie fansite (with Dreamweaver and writing my own content) that earned me a whopping $100 from Adsense over about 4-5 months and 2) hustling some 5 character DNs (a smart friend of mine wrote a program that gave me a good number of pronounceable 5-letter DNs) for a few bucks. But all that stuff was 2-3 years ago and I've been out of the loop since. Now my main gig is a brick-and-mortar IT consulting and support biz. I enjoy the work and make great money. But I am starting to get a little burnt from running a business and the siren song of making money online is calling me again. I'd had a concept in my head for about a year now for a combination of a blog and user-generated content (in the form of forums). It is a medical niche and so far there isn't anything out there focusing specifically on this type of content. But the research I've done shows the topic more than likely will grow in the coming years. The idea I've been entertaining is to setup a Wordpress blog with some good content (and maybe some scraped content as well - not sure about this) and a forum where people could discuss and hopefully generate some significant content. However, I am facing some pretty big challenges: I am not really much of a coder or fiddler. That said, I would probably have to pay someone to develop the appearance and function of the site. Also, to get great content I assume one writes it themselves or hires someone, yes? But what about taking content from other sites - is this acceptable if credit is given? What about people taking content from my site or simply copying it - is this a concern? What about the forums? The age-old question: How do you get people to start and continue posting? I realize these are some pretty lame nooberiffic questions. I suppose I am just looking for a few hints from some of the more experienced producers on here. One advantage I do have is some significant money to invest in the site to make it look professional and pay for content and such. I also am personally interested in the topic. My goal would be, surprise surprise, to drive as much traffic as possible to the site in the hopes of being able to sell some advertising. Thanks in advance for any advice.
