Former Googlers Will End Google's Search Monopoly?

Discussion in 'Google' started by Bohol, Jul 28, 2008.

A start-up led by former star Google engineers on Sunday unveiled a new web search service that aims to outdo the Internet search leader in size, but faces an uphill battle changing Web surfing habits. Cuil Inc (pronounced "cool") is offering a new search service at http://www.cuil.com that the company claims can index, faster and more cheaply, a far larger portion of the the Web than Google, which boasts the largest online index. - Eric Auchard, Reuters.com

Note: Cuil has indexed 121 Billion webpages more than Google's repository.

I checked an active forum site whether it was indexed by cui.com but I was disappointed, I saw none of the pages being indexed.

a bit disappointing. My site that shows up on page 1 in google for my keyword doesn't show on the first 5 pages of cuil.

If that is the case, it seems that cuil.com is just a hype intended to increase the next round of venture funding? IMHO.

I just did a blind test run and typed the word "google" and I was shocked to find:

Did I do something wrong here or is there something wrong with the search engine :D

I liked it, my site is first.

However, the image shown is from my competitor's, not from my site.

Well, at least someone is doing something, not complaining about the new evil.

Maybe they got a taste of there own medicine and are now penalized ... :p

To be honest i think its great that another engine could being the next big SE
on the block but it has a long way to go (in my view) as everything takes time to perfect.

    I wish them success!

    thx

Seems a bit slow, and their format will take some time to get used to.

Well, it sounds interesting, but I just have one thing to say, I mean Google is Google, keep that in mind, before cuil.com reaches its full potential the Big G will offer an enormous chunk of money for it ;)

On the other hand Google hasn't reached its full potential, they still have some unveiled plans, haha ;)

    Cheers!

The biggest search engine on the planet with over 1 billion pages index. WoW!

So big it doesn't provide results for basic keywords. Any way I hope they succeed. But honestly before creating this big buzz they would have take care of the data first.

Yes they have a good group. Let's see what comes out of it.

I like the looks of the site but they have a long way to go. I have several sites that come up #1 on Google and several other search engines for particular search terms. In some cases, they were also #1 on cuil but in some cases they were nowhere to be found in the first several pages (though all but one that I checked were indexed).

The images were something else. In most cases, the images had nothing to do with my sites and in other cases they picked some minor image that had little relevance to the page.

I think the site is having some performance issues. I searched for:

    How to install windows xp

And got the same message. When I clicked search again it gave me results.

Is it a search engine so funny. I seached for two word keyword and it was saying, no result found. Please check.

:D:D With this, they want to become world biggest search engine and want to challenge Google. Very bad effort:eek:
