Not that this has happened to me but if someone forgets their wordpress admin password and no longer has access to the email address that was first used to setup the blog, how do they go about resetting this password. Is there a file that you can upload from the original install files that would set a password back to default? Thank you
As far as I know, no. Wordpress doesn't have a "Recovery" system. You either try to reactivate that email account or try hard and remember the password. However, if anyone else knows of a way to retrieve the password it would be good to know.
You will find a detailed answer to your question here - http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password - no need for me to try to paraphrase it here.
While this is not a recovery system, it's good to know I was wrong and that the password can be reset +Rep given!
this is exactly the same rason why I created a seperate account with my name as the user and a custom password. Sorry mate, maybe you can email the worpdress guys and see if you can work something out... good luck!
If the email address associated with the blog is no longer working you could change the email address through phpmyadmin and then use the "forgot password" link. This may be easier for some rather than trying to figure out the encrypted password in the database.
