Thanks to all the assholes who voted for the SNP in Scotland, we've got MPs forgetting about job losses, alcohol problems, health problems, the credit crunch, war, etc, so they can talk about cricket being on TV.

Cricket is actually a popular game in Scotland, but don't let the SNP know

Scots call to cut cricket on TV

Sandra White, an SNP MSP, has lodged a motion condemning coverage of the Ashes test series in Scotland

Nationalist politicians have criticised “over the top” media coverage of the Ashes test series, saying it is of limited interest north of the border where few people follow cricket.

Sandra White, the MSP for Glasgow, has lodged a motion in the Scottish parliament condemning the level of coverage, saying it demonstrates the case for a separate Scottish television channel.

Although the five test series is being broadcast live on Sky Sports, it features prominently in news and sports bulletins on terrestrial channels as well as on radio programmes.

White compared Scottish interest in cricket to English interest in minority sports such as curling, adding: “I don’t think that in Scotland cricket merits the same support that it does down south.

“I would certainly support the case for our own broadcasting company that would give priority to Scottish sport.

“Those who want to see the cricket can get Sky. I do think it gives more grist to the mill for our own broadcasting company and that’s why I’m putting down a parliamentary motion.”

Bill Wilson, the nationalist MSP for the West of Scotland, said the coverage was as incongruous in Scotland as World Cup and European Championship campaigns by the England football team.

However, Roddy Smith, chief executive of Cricket Scotland said interest in the sport had grown north of the border.

“I think it’s brilliant, it’s the biggest sporting thing going on at the moment,” he said.
