dude, it's one factor out of many. maybe it shouldn't be zero, but i've seen PR 2 pages outrank PR 4 pages regularly. people should just stop focusing on buying links from high PR pages just because they're high PR.

PR updates all the time you just don't see it. Visual PR updates every blue moon. So a PR0 site can be PR10 already but you just wont see it till the next update...

Also... What do you expect? The second PR updates you jump up SERPs because your links kick in? Rubbish good sir!

Its a page rank. Its an indicator. Indicates how many links you have and their "quality". Like Alexa rank. Alexa rank does not effect your traffic. Your traffic effects Alexa rank.

PR / BL's / Domain Age / URL Composition ... all part of the witches brew of SERP's

Pagerank is an outcome of your backlinks..
Pagerank doesnt affect your ranking directly and Toolbar Pr doesnt do anything other than entertaining you..

Now why is there something called Pagerank ??

Google introduced Pagerank as a outcome of total votes cast by other websites to your website (in the form of backlinks), Every direct backlink passes some value to your site.. Pagerank is based on those collective values.
But Soon webmasters became obsessed with pagerank (Or live Pagerank) so Google simply decided to make it useless in the public view. hence they stopped showing the real pagerank for any site. instead they started exporting the Pagerank value of some past time on periodic basis. This is what you see in your Toolbar or all of those Pagerank checker.

This PR value is nothing but a snapshot of a past date usually a month old than the export day when they update the toolbar pagerank.

The Real/live/current pagerank is hidden and locked in google's vault and no-one, I repeat noone except related google employees know its value and what exactly it does to affect SERP.

So no matter if there is a toolbar Pagerank update or not, You can still outrank anysite for any term period.

you have no proof of any of the things you state other then hear say from other SEOs who also have no proof

I'm pointing out that PR 0 sites cant beat page ranked websites for competitive terms simply because they cant! they need that final push, the PR update. Hence why people say there website has been 'sandboxed' and cant get ranked for 6 months.

6 months before a PR update and that final push from a pr 0 to a site that is semi important in Gs eyes and ranked accordingly in the SERPS for a competitive term.

How can you argue against that

    PR does effect your rank

    As I posted earlier:
If you mean a page with toolbar PR 0 cannot get higher Google search rankings than another page with toolbar PR above 0, then you're wrong. A 3-minute analysis of search results could probably show you this.

I agree that PR is important - all other things being equal, pages with higher PR will rank higher - but there are many, many other things besides increasing PR that can be done to improve a page or a site's ranking.

I'd say that in fact that an increase of PR for a page should be a natural, longer-term outcome of doing sensible on-page and off-page optimisation. Do the basic, sensible SEO stuff to the page/site - and you should get increased PR. It will look after itself.

Also - people forget that actually all that matters is the ranking. If your page ranks well, and you have low PR - so what?!?

    I agree with you completely.
I have been debating about this with one of my friend who also posted here--for a long time.

And I also urge people who thinks PR does not play any role in SERPs--

    Please --Please --Please --
Show me a PR0 site outranking ( top 50) for a real competitive term ( over 100 million). Otherwise --please just don't write-off the importance of PR for SERPs.

I don't know who has brought up this weird idea that PR is not important for SERPs.

SERPs= Relevancy of content + PR.

Page Rank has nothing to do with SERP's. It depends on a lot of factors such as quality backlinks and proper optimization.

Yes We have proofs.. How many do you need??
    For example : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...fficial&hs=o6e&q=pagerank+tracker&btnG=Search
PR0 pages outranking PR1,3 and even 5 pages. for over a million results..

    Another example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...fficial&hs=BVK&q=Pagerank+Checker&btnG=Search
PR 0 page outranking PR6,7,8 pages for over 2 million results

Your approach is totally wrong and misleading..
Pagerank (AKA PR) Is not a Site based.. its page based.. and PR0 in the toolbar IS NOT your real PR. Pagerank is nothing without backlinks.. Its backlinks you need to get ranked in SEs. Pagerank is not a factor, its an outcome calculated on the basis of what and how many backlinks you have.

A new page with 0 backlinks cant outrank any page with strong backlinks and targeting the same keyword, no matter whether the term is competitive or not. But a page with better backlinks or better optimization can outrank the site, even if it has PR0 in the toolbar.

And for your information Pagerank gets updated everyday for sites. its just that you or me or any webmaster for that matter doesnt know about it.

I suggest you to go to mattcutts blog and ask the same question there. :)

Ok, a post on my forum is ranking #7 for an 85 Million result search on the term Speed up Office 2007.

I'm ahead of the PR9 support.microsoft.com page, ArsTechnica, Cnet.com, PCworld.com, MIT.Edu, Techrepublic who have all got similar content on their pages and big PR.

The content isn't even on my home page, it's sub levels deep and the site isn't dedicated to the topic yet i'm beating sites dedicated to MS Office/Microsoft products with similar content on their home page of PR6 and above and 1,000s of pages indexed relevant to the search term.

My page is PR0 and guess what? The whole site is PR0 and has never been through a Pagerank update in it's life. I can show you other examples of just my sites that are in top 20 for high xxx million result terms if 85 Million isn't "competative enough". I couldn't be bothered right now, and this one springs to mind to dis-prove your theory.

    Your turn.

Well --someone participating on this thread has been playing FOOL --he just gave me Red Rep --for my comments.

And challenged me to give a word --over 100 million --.

Here is my challenge to him/her -- I give you the word -- WINDOWS --show me a site with PR0 --in top 50 of Google.com search. No excuses please.

PS: one of my PR0 site also ranks on 1st page of Google for over 30 keywords which are not competitive. But my site ranks high because it has high PR backlinks and Google has already updated PR. It is just not exporting them to the toolbar for public viewing.

Are you for real? Most PR0 pages are so new they are sandboxed/un-aged/not linked to. Saying they dont compete because they have no PR is like saying a newborn baby cannot walk because no one has sent them a pair of shoes yet. The shoes may help with walking one day but wont do the walking for the baby.

Okay, I'll add my two cents here.

The PR value of a web page is directly related to the increasing number of qualifying inbound links to this page and doesn't decide what your ranking will be in the SERPs

But as I think most would agree website pages with high PR value generally rank well in the SERPs.

When refering to higher PR value web pages it's not necessarily the cause or reason for good rankings but, rather a characteristc of well ranked sites.

Position #35 for the search term Windows:

    http://dia-installer.de/index.html - PR0

BTW - That red rep was pretty uncalled for, can't we have a debate like adults no matter who is right or wrong.

I have got alot of PR0 Websites on page 1 for 100 Million plus terms, and i will guarantee i could get a PR0 site in to the top 50 for the term Windows.
