Ford Motor Co. is selling its storied Jaguar and Land Rover businesses to India’s Tata Motors Ltd. in a deal that will net the U.S. automaker $1.7 billion — roughly a third of the price it paid for the two luxury brands. The deal announced Wednesday will expand the Indian carmaker’s reach around the globe and give Jaguar and Land Rover badly needed capital to update and expand their product lines.

rover has a history unlike tata motors who built in collaboration, no r&d & they hav nil experience in luxury passenger vehicles. only exception is their cheap compact & sedans (so claimed) favored among the average people who are happy to go by any square metal cabins & dont bother to get into specifics

u dont want me to tell u rover's history & th terrains it has conquered do u ??

PS: i certainly do not doubt tatas capabilities, s they hav money & lots of it. India needs companies like tata. but rover's & jaguar's are class apart. tatas & Indian businesses alike are good at reproducing goods through technology transfer. still light years away frm creating master pieces something as intricate & reliable tht go into building any tools/instruments. i jus mean to say its not in th right hands.

I heard that on news yesterday. They had a review about Tata, it seems like there is no sector they are not in. I'd like to have a test drive with their world's cheapest car, i like small cars.

It offers a lot of scope for the growth of automobile industry in India and further TATA has some place to have its foot in the UK by way of this deal. Another feather in the TATA's cap :)

Tatas are one of the most successful business houses of indian corporate industry. Tata steel also made india proud by acquiring Chorus Last Year.
