I need some advice. I received this email: I contacted them on their live chat available on the home page to ask about it. They said that it had been auto-renewed and that I needed to pay the invoice to avid additional charges and the involvement of a debt collection agency. Here is the chat log: I never bothered to use the domain or hosting beyond the first week. They got a full year out of me and have now sprung this auto-renew on me. I'm at a loss what to do. The money is no biggie. I just feel like they're taking liberties with me. If there is no way out of it, at least you should all be aware to avoid http://one.com
so pay your debts...whats the question?...it was your responsiblity to take it off auto-renew....so it renewed, so they charged you, so pay it, if not, no big deal, they will send you to collections over $20 or whatever it is... if you care about your credit at all, pay the damn $20 and be done with it.
The problem is that none of the major companies use this billing scheme. If you are on auto renew, your domain/virtual hosting just drops if you don't pay. But some smaller companies (and companies catering primarily to total noobs) have taken advantage of this common practice among webmasters (not canceling the auto renew) and see persuing them as an extra source of revenue. People have even gotten $1,000+ bills from 1&1 for domains that were on auto renew, but intended to drop.
Its only 22GBP just ignore it, other hosting company's have tried this in the past its just a way to make a extra buck. If you look around companies like Burst.net have tried the same thing and nobody had anything appear on their credit report.
