What are our options available to you for connections? I was looking into buying a server to run from my house, however as far as I know Time Warner is the only connection I have available to the net. Do they offer server connection speeds? I know it is just cable lines, so it obviously will not reach the speeds of T1/Fibers/ OC12 etc, but I am just wondering what connections/options you have available for connections for your own servers?

If you have roadrunner you're not supposed to run a webserver unless you upgrade to business class. They do dynamic rather than IP, but there are ways to get around that. I have had full-blown nameserver and webserver for 90 sites running on Linux servers from my home using roadrunner. The bandwidth was actually quite nice if your visitors are only thousands per day. I actually sent emails to roadrunner in order to seek permission, since I was doing it to teach myself new technical skills. I learned what I wanted to learn, then went to a good commercial hosting service since I did not want to be in violation of terms and agreements.
Earlier on, I did the same with a dsl connection. It had a static IP, so I did not have to implement an IP switching strategy.
T1 is available in many areas of the country now. When I looked into pricing, it was $400 per month.

Colocation is the best option if you own the hardware, IMO.
