For those of you who think it takes a long time to get indexed: Page 1 in 2hrs!

I wrote an article on my blog and after 2 hours it appeared as the 3rd result in Google from a search phrase with about 27,400,000 results after just 2hrs!

So far, it has remained on page 1 for over a week, bringing me an additional 200+ unique visitors/day.

I find that Google indexes my new posts usually within 30 minutes or so. Their spiders must be hard at work.

    Yep google loves blogs.

Depending on the keyword, the rankings may drop though.

you maybe having a PR of 5 or 6... and since yours is a blog its more effective.. however thats not enough for such a result... experiment with more posts and the time they take to get indexed... then you will get an idea of the cause depending on the results

What kind of blog did you have, a hosted one or one on your own server. Hosted blogs tend to rank better because they are indexed heavily every day by a ton of different search engine spiders.

I have it hosted myself- not through a service such as Wordpress or Blogger.

This is not the only example I have of ranking well so quickly (and not the only site I've been able to achieve this), its just one of the best terms I've ranked for in a while.

I know that sometimes as time goes on your ranking will drop, which is why I said I have been ranking around the same spot for a week or so now.

I can't count the number of terms I rank in the top three results in Google for (a lot), but they are usually not for anything most people would ever search for- they may send just 1-2 visitors per day. The reason I posted this is because this particular post is ranking for a term many people search for each day.

The point I'm trying to make is that everyone worrying so much about 'how fast will I get indexed?...' have nothing to worry about if their content is actually worth beans and is unique.

Google loves blogs I think because they own Blogger/Blogspot and also because it has gain publicity over the internet and is ranked 9th in Alexa. Resulting in getting your blog indexed frequently and also because of all the social networkings you can join to attract spiders to crawl on your site as well.

I think google loves blogs because they are a platform that lets people update their site frequently and it is easy for google to see when you have updated because they all have the same format/code and rss feeds with the updated content.

Wordpress and other blogging tools ping Google and other search engines when you make a new post. This is why your site gets indexed so soon.

Static HTML pages and other content management systems don't ping anything so it may take days to appear in the search results.

exactly... if you worry more on the quality of your content than the question of when will google index it, things could feel better :)

I don't think you would have as good a result if you were blogging about mortgages, or credit cards or other big money items. If perhaps you were blogging about hair dye for poodles then perhaps....

No, actually it's one word (not a phrase) which has over 27,000,000 results in Google. Trust me- its a word used around these forums aaaaallllll the time.

@IEmailer.com: lol nooo... I dont think I want to be doing that. :)

@dejan_b: I did not do any promotion. That's my whole point. If you write quality, unique content, you will rank very well. My other point I was trying to make is that it takes a much shorter amount of time for Google to index your new pages now, than say 3-5 years ago.

One of my sites got spammed, and it ranked first page for "Generic Viagra", "Buy Viagra Online", "T-Mobile Ringtones" and a bunch of others in under 30 minutes.

There was over 1k spam threads, i deleted them pretty fast (they were still on spamming) but Google still cached 90% of the pages and for the next 2 weeks i was getting all sorts of traffic from Gucci Replicas to Tramadol lol.

It's pretty simple to rank fast like that if your site has a bit of authority.
